Your data, plainly.
How Unjica collects, uses, and protects information about readers — based on what the site actually does.
§ 01
Data controller
The data controller for unjica.com is:
- Tačko, s.p.
- Ulica Elvire Vatovec 11, 6310 Izola, Slovenia
- Registration number: 9244727000
- Tax number: 17952956
- Email: info@unjica.com
§ 02
Data we collect
We collect only what is needed to operate the publication:
- Newsletter: email address and subscription date; unsubscribe status
- Contact form: name, email, topic, message, and submission timestamp
- Optional accounts: if you register, profile and authentication data handled by Supabase (email and account metadata)
- Comments and reactions: comment text and optional anonymous identifiers stored locally in your browser when you interact without signing in
- Cookie consent: your category choices and decision timestamp
- Analytics (with consent): aggregated visit data via Google Analytics and product analytics events via our telemetry service
- Server logs: IP address, request metadata, and error logs from hosting infrastructure — retained for security and troubleshooting
We do not sell personal information. We do not offer personalized reading recommendations based on behavioural profiles.
§ 03
How we use data
We use personal data to:
- Deliver the weekly newsletter and process unsubscribe requests
- Respond to contact form messages and correspondence
- Operate optional user accounts and authentication
- Maintain site security, prevent abuse, and investigate errors
- Measure aggregated readership when you consent to analytics
- Remember your cookie consent choices
- Comply with legal obligations where applicable
§ 04
Legal bases (EEA / UK)
Where EU/UK data protection law applies, we rely on:
- Consent — analytics cookies and newsletter subscription
- Contract / steps at your request — responding to messages you send, operating accounts you create, delivering the newsletter you subscribe to
- Legitimate interests — site security, abuse prevention, aggregated product improvement, and operational error monitoring, balanced against your rights
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information by law
§ 06
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to measure anonymous, aggregated traffic — pages visited, approximate region, referrer, and device type. The Google tag loads only after you accept analytics cookies.
We also use a telemetry service for product analytics events (for example newsletter sign-ups and contact submissions) when analytics consent is granted. Operational error reports may be sent to help us fix technical issues regardless of analytics consent.
§ 07
Third-party providers
We use service providers to operate Unjica. They process data only as instructed:
- Vercel — website hosting and delivery; server logs
- Supabase — optional authentication and PostgreSQL database hosting (newsletter subscribers, contact submissions, publication data)
- Google (Gmail SMTP) — transactional email for newsletter welcome messages, contact notifications, and correspondence
- Google Analytics — aggregated analytics when consented
- Telemetry Tracker — product analytics and error monitoring
- Cloudflare R2 — storage for generated publication images
- OpenAI — editorial content preparation (news summaries and publication text from third-party sources; not routine reader personal data)
- Meta (Facebook SDK) — may load when interacting with Facebook-related features; sets cookies according to Meta's policies
§ 08
International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area (for example the United States). Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms offered by those providers.
§ 09
Data retention
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, then marked unsubscribed; we may retain minimal records to honour unsubscribe requests
- Contact submissions: for as long as needed to respond and maintain a record of correspondence, typically up to 24 months unless a longer period is required
- Cookie consent records: stored locally in your browser until cleared
- Analytics: according to Google Analytics and telemetry provider settings (aggregated data)
- Server logs: typically rolling retention on hosting infrastructure
§ 10
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing)
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
In Slovenia, the supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec). To exercise your rights, email info@unjica.com from the address associated with your request.
§ 11
Children
Unjica is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the website, newsletter, or contact form.
§ 12
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and reputable hosting providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
§ 13
